Our Mission & Objectives
Columbia Chinese Language School (CCLS) is a nonprofit organization whose main objectives are to teach the Chinese language, promote Chinese culture and provide related services to students of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. The School is open to anyone interested in learning the Chinese language and culture, regardless of age, race, sex, religion, and nationality.
Started with eight students in 2000, the Columbia Chinese Language School, a nonprofit organization, aims to provide the best Chinese language education for children in Columbia, Mo. The school Started from a tradition that Chinese parents assembled on Sunday and taught class to their children in groups. Today, professional teachers offer six levels of curriculum at Columbia Chinese Language School. CCLS is operated by volunteers and its financial support comes mainly from tuition and donations from individuals, private businesses and institutions. The school is a place for students to learn the Chinese language and culture, as well as respect responsibility.
Curriculum & Services
The school operates from 2 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. on Sunday. The programs consist of language and enrichment classes. The first hour is devoted to language learning and is followed by cultural activities, including Chinese arts and sports. Special classes are offered for children and adults of non-Chinese descent to learn Chinese as a second language. Language classes are tailored to a student's knowledge of Chinese and are conducted by Mandarin and English-speaking Chinese teachers. All classes use the Chinese pin-yin pronunciation system to aid students in pronouncing Chinese. The School's teaching materials use simplified characters and supplementary teaching material from China.
The enrichment classes offer a variety of activities including, but not limited to, martial arts, folk dance, calligraphy, painting, drawing, chess, volleyball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, arts & crafts, and sing-and-play.
